Default Office Plug-Ins

I was always getting requesting virsus scan on every WORD
document I opened. Norton never found any virus when I
scanned documents.

When I had Norton Antivirus 2000 I was told to disable
Office Plug-Ins as folows:

"C:\Windows\System\Regsvr32" -U "C:\Program Files\Norton
AntiVirus\OfficeAV.dll"

With Norton AntiVirus 2003 and 2004 I have to uncheck
Enable Office Plug Ins so I do not get the requesting
virus scan message every time I open a document.

I believe at one time Microsoft made some alteration to my
Works Suite, but I do not remember the whys and wherefors.
I think this may have had some bearing on this problem. I
believe it had something to do with the Word ad-ins. Can
anyone explain?

No, this is entirely a configuration option within Norton, and not a bad
thing, word processor macros have a powerful script programming ability and
there are viruses written entirely in word macro that are very destructive.
For people who receive emailed copies of documents that may be compromised the
default is to have document scanning on. The later version of Norton has a
simpler settings option than the work-around for NAV2000 (unregistering the
dll file is the workaround) and is a lot easier to turn back on.
It is the default for AV software is to have all options turned on, and allow
the user to switch them off as they (the user) determine that the options
arent needed. Much better than trying to turn options on after finding out
that they are needed, when the only way to find out is a virus activated and
trashed something. Allegories of stable doors and bolting horses.

If anybody reading this expected total bashing just because its NAV, sorry I
let you down
