Windows 98
Hey guys I have a question for you. Probably sounds kind
of silly but does any one know where I can get a copy of a Windows 98 startup disk? The reason I am asking is because when ihooked up my computer it gave me an error message saying : "Insert bootable media disk to begin set up" Do I need a start up disk or is there something else that I need to do to get my computer up and running. Its a Gateway 2000 computer. If anyone wouldn't mind helping me out with this. I would appreciate it. Thanks Tim II |

Somebody left a 3.5 inch diskette in the drive and the computer is trying to boot from that. 2. The hard drive has failed, or at least is no longer bootable for some reason. In either event just using a proper Windows 98 Boot Disk will not resolve the problem, although it will allow you to run some DOS based diagnostic tests to determine just exactly what did happen to the hard drive. You can make a floppy boot disk with the Fat32ebd.exe file located on the
W98 CD: tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd or you can download one he http://www.bootdisk.com/ I suggest the you identify the brand of hard drive, go to the drive maker's web site and download their diagnostic software. It runs from a floppy disk and will tell you the health of your hard drive. If the drive has failed, you will have to replace it. If it is OK, then you will probably have to reinstall W98. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Tim" wrote in message ...
