Windows ME Wireless stopped working
I am trying to fix my father-in-law's Windows ME NEC PC. He uses it=20 infrequently and only for an occasional email and browsing. A couple of=20 weeks ago the wireless LAN failed. On boot up we see a message which = says=20 that the ATERM wireless LAN card cannot be found. I ran the diagnostics=20 package (everything in Japanese I should add) and saw nothing wrong.=20 Control Panel also showed the card to be installed OK in the slot. I = could=20 stop the card and reinsert and all was well it seemed. On Saturday I bought a new card - an upgrade to a g version as well as b = -=20 for future upgrade of the wireless base station. The card installed fine = (Buffalo) and the drivers also installed from the CD with no hassle. = Then I=20 tried the second half of the install and began to hit problems. For some = reason there is no IP address being set in the card. As the card has no = IP=20 address set then of course we cannot get any communication working at = all. Does anyone have any ideas...seems like an underlying problem rather = than=20 either of the cards now as far as I can see... do I need to set up ME again or rebuild the network or something similar = ? |
