Volume controls don't work

I'm using Windows 98 on an office computer with many users.

The Volume controls no longer appear on the bottom right-
hand corner of the screen. When I go to: Start Programs
Accessories Entertainment Volume Control, nothing
happens if I click. If I right-click on it none of the
options appear when selected.

Please help me.

control Make sure it is checked. If it is already checked, then un-check
itOK(apply)OK out. Re-boot if necessary, and repeat process to re-check
that volume control box.

Then, control panelmultimedia"show volume control on taskbar" (in
Systray)applyOK out.
