Thanks for your reply. The second link you offered me makes me think I need
to replace the COMCTL32.DLL file by renaming it COMMCTRL.DLL from the command prompt. I am not sure on how to do this. Do I have to start from the floppy disk to get the command prompt up? The only way I can shut my computer off is by unplugging it, and like I said, every time I restart it, it wants to take me through the reinstall process of windows me. I have tried to reinstall it with cdrom support, and then I tried to install it a few times with the option that lets me have a fresh copy of windows. everytime it tells me when i have 15 minutes left in the installation process, when it checks for new hardware and plug and play device, COMCTL32.DLL can not be started. Please follow up if you can. Thank you again. "John..." wrote: "james" wrote in message ... My computer stopped loading up due to who knows what. Not sure how to rename the file, but it wants placing in C:\Windows\System. Try the following link for info on extracting files: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/129605/EN-US/ I'm not too bright on using DOS but I hope either this link or some other helpful group user will help solve your problem.
