Tips on finding a USB driver ...
I'm all of a sudden having troubles with my 7-port USB hub. It worked
for many days and now, no go. A couple of days ago I had printer troubles. It's my fault, I forgot where I was printing from (the USB flash drive). Both the flash drive and the printer are on the hub, which is one situation I forgot to consider when avoiding simultaneous uses of USB devices. I believe I initially got a driver for this 7-port from the Win98SE CD, but that isn't working anymore. In the device manager, I have an unkown USB device that nothing I've done fixes. Unlike the attached 4-port hub, cannot seem to find actual drivers for the 7-port. Up till now it seemed to work on a generic driver but can't remember really what process dl it. I'd like to fix this once and for all as I'm now having trouble with everything but the modem without a lot of fiddling. I went to the Dynex site and this is my 7-port: http://www.dynexproducts.com/pc-90-2...obile-hub.aspx. It doesn't seem to be listed on their dl page (under the "USB and Firewire" button): http://www.dynexproducts.com/t-drivers.aspx I will try to contact them today at work when I have a moment (at 1-800-305-2204), but does anyone have any suggestions in case they can't help? The packaging says Win98SE not supported (though the website says differently), but I'm concerned that they'll say they can't help me because of that. Thanks in advance for any help. Everything was working swimmingly till now. D |

Windows already supports USB, and they are backward compatible, so you don't need to download drivers for them. Have you tried unplugging it, and removing it in Device Manager and letting Windows re-install it? Have you tried it on another computer? Could be you fried it when you had the printer and flash drive incident. Check out USBMAN.com for some useful information. Hope some of this helps. charlie R |

Despite the generic drivers in Win98SE, I don't seem to get consistent use out of the new 7-port. The 4-port is consistently good. I'll see if disconnecting and re-connecting works. Cheers. D |

Well, I've tried every little bit that I know to do. I disconnected and reconnected everything, removed from Device Manager, etc., and and the 4-port consistently works whereas the 7 doesn't. Despite lack of fireworks or sparks, etc. g, the 7-port may indeed have been fried. I bought it with an extended warranty and have the receipt and packaging so will return and replace. I may decide to just get another like the consistent 4-port brand even though I would ultimately be 3 ports the loser. I know I don't use all 11 ports esp. at once, naturally, but I like how I can park my MP3 player and my phone tools for when I use these which avoids damaged cords from all the connecting/disconnecting to a fewer number of free ports g. Anyway, have also made sure the USB flash drive is on a different hub from the printer. That may help even though I plan to never print directly from it again! g The flash drive is just my backup tool between office and home anyway so everything that is on it eventually ends up on the HDD. Must just wait till what I want to print is on the computer instead. Thanks for the help. D |

See the following: USB devices not Hub Compatible Scanner, Web Camera, Digital Camera, Multiple Port Device, Docking Stations, Multi-function Printer, ADSL Modem, CDR & CDRW, Storage Devices, PDAs, Flash Card Reader, Force Feedback Gaming, Video Capture/Editing, Network, Direct Connect, Zip Drive, Legacy Adapter, Serial/Parallel/SCSI. Devices that ARE Compatible Mouse, Printer with Power Supply, UPSBattery Backup, Keyboard W/O Built in Hub, Phone Line Modem, USB Radio, Flash Drives (Most), Non-Force Joystick. The first list is a lot longer than the second, isn't it? Theoretically, you can hookup 27 devices with several connected hubs. Trouble is, you just can't use them for much. See this page: http://www.usbman.com/Guides/USB1.1HubsT&A.htm Good luck with the new Hub. charlie R |

The only thing I'm "worried" about is that since I'm going instead for a hub that's the same brand for the one that works all the time, whether there'll be conflicts of any kind. I'll soon find out. Anyway, the first hub has turned out to be reliable, the second one not, so will go with the brand that works. D |
