Default Wireless adapters and Windows ME

I have an older Compaq presario laptop running ME and want to set it up to be
on my home network. I was wondering if I can use a wireless adapter to set
it up with my home network or do I need to use a PCMCIA card? The laptop
has a PCMCIA card slot for a type I, II, or III PC Card with support for a
32-bit Cardbus.

The problem with anything you buy nowadays is going to be finding drivers
for ME.
It's probably going to be easier to Google for drivers for your option of
choice - then see whether you can find a manufacturer and supplier!

In the case of laptops.....
you have the option of PCMCIA or USB (or wired)
- I seriously doubt that anyone still produces PCMCIA cards with ME
drivers.
IIRC there were still one or two USB manufacturers who bothered to create
ME/Win98 drivers for their dongles, but for the life of me, I can't remember
who... Edimax, maybe?
..... hmmm -seems like Linksys may still do them? maybe if you look in eBay,
and check for drivers before purchase, you can get a bargain?

Sorry I can't give chapter-and-verse!

Glad to know my memory isn't totally failing me

Good luck with the Edimax - I've always found them good.

Well I have the ME up and running on the internet. Edimax sent me two
different drivers to install and once I installed it and figured out how to
config ME works great. Now it is just hard for me to figure out how to
network 3 PC, each running different Windows OS. I think I will be checking
out the "networking" section.

Thanks again--

Not really too difficult
simply (you are using a router, right??) ensure that all PC's are using the
same Workgroup name, and are pulling their IPs from the router's DHCP
server.
That way it's the router which controls the network, and everything gets to
know everything else.
If using Vista/Win7, then you may also need to check that the network is
defined properly as a Private Network - otherwise they become
'undiscoverable'.
