Default Internet Connection Wizard Component Missing

I have a 5 year old IBM Laptop, it has Windows 98 as the
o/s. there were some corrupted files I believe or it was
not installed properly (was given lap top by friend)I had
a windows 98 disk so, being a bit stupid I installed over
it hoping it would fix whatever problems I was having with
some of the corruption. It never did help, as far as I can
tell and now I have a message coming up whn I click on the
connect to internet. the error I get says that the
internet connection izard will not load component missing.
can anyone out there help? everything else seems to be ok.
Thank you.

If you're using the Internet icon on the desktop, it will
try and run the Internet Connection Wizard sometimes. You
can either try

Start Run iexplore

or looking for Internet Explorer on the Start Menu, or
just reinstalling Internet Explorer, and making sure you
choose to install Internet Connection Wizard (Custom
Install)

-cough- Sowwy... I'm bored. I am at work and I have
nothing better to do. It's either try and help people here
(since I can only visit select sites) or retype 1970
engineering guides because my PC is so slow it can't load
images to OCR. If I'm a bother I'll just refrain from
disturbing these newsgroups...

Wow, you're brave. If I was working the newsgroups while at work, and being
paid to do something else, I'd lose my job!!
