Hi,
I have a friend's Compaq that was infected with spyware and viruses. After cleaning the system some systems' files were missing. I went to the c:\windows\options\cabs directory and ran setup. Just after entering the user name and organization, the following message comes up - "Message SU0350 Setup cannot verify the End User License Agreement. Windows Millennium Edition cannot be set up without this agreement. Setup will now close." I assume there is a bat or ini file in the cabs directory that automates the setup. Can someone tell me the name of the file so I can enter the key code? Thanks Rich |

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. Thanks Rich -----Original Message----- This problem is usually due to setup being unable to find the file license.txt (which should be in PRECOPY1.CAB) but there are some other possible causes for this error. Check for and delete any license.txt file that might be in the C:\Windows\Help and C:\Windows folders or perhaps better copy license.txt from PRECOPY1.CAB to both your windows and windows\help folders. See MS KB 311009 - "Error Message: Error SU0350 Setup Was Unable to Display the Nondisclosure Agreement" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=311009). -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Rich wrote: Hi, I have a friend's Compaq that was infected with spyware and viruses. Hi Mike,
No Luck. I deleted the license.txt files in the windows and windows\help directories. I extracted the file license.txt from PRECOPY1.CAB and copied it to the windows and windows\help directories. Still had the same problem. I did check the http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=311009 site. I did check the machine for all copies of license.txt. There were three copies, in c:\windows - c:\windows\help - and in c:\windows\options\cabs. All three had the same size and date. Any other suggestions? Thanks for all of your help. Rich/Mike, hope you don't mind me jumping in
From reading http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=311009 I wonder, could there be an issue with the Memory, or the layout1.inf file have been corrupted perhaps? Does layout1.inf get overwritten with a 're-install'? May be worth a fresh copy extracted from precopy1.cab - see if that helps. Mart "Rich" wrote in message ... Hi Mike, No Luck. Rich,
As Mart has pointed out there are other reasons for the SU0350 error covered by KB311009 than just that of license.txt. I only mentioned license.txt as I had personally encountered that variation of the error where a reinstall barfed because the license.txt file in C:\windows wasn't that from Win Me but instead from another application I had installed. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Rich wrote: Hi Mike, No Luck. Hi Mart,
Your input is very welcome. Interestingly, when I doubled checked license.txt file after the last time I tried to install ME, the size was different from the original size. The size in the windows directory is 32,498. the size in both the windows\help and windows\options\cabs directories is 1,315 (the original size extracted). I have copied the windows License.txt to the windows\help directory. I have searched the computer but cannot find a "layout1.inf" file. Since it takes about 30 minutes before this fails, I will get back shortly. thanks Rich -----Original Message----- Rich/Mike, hope you don't mind me jumping in From reading http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=311009 I wonder, could there be an issue with the Memory, or the layout1.inf file have been corrupted perhaps? Hi,
Well - after coping the license.txt file to the windows/help directory and verifying the size of that file, I re-ran the installation - same results. I replace the memory but that didn't help. The only thing I can see is there is no Layout1.inf on the computer. I will try to get installation disk for ME. Thanks for all of your help. The only thing I can see is there is no Layout1.inf on
the computer. I will try to get installation disk for ME. Odd, that Rich - there's a copy on my WinMe box in the Windows\Inf folder. Mart "Rich" wrote in message ...
