renaming files problem and editing system files
I renamed a number of text files in the root of drive C:
and have just been working at the command prompt and noticed that each of these text file now has two file extensions (e.g. "filename.txt.txt"). How might this have happened? How can I solve it and How can I stop it from happening again in the future? Secondly, I want to edit some of my system files (such as config.sys). I've just opened the root of drive C: in My Computer and the files have somehow disappeared. Where have they gone and how do I get them back? |

TXT files do nothing (not being EXE files) and you can rename them at will or move them to any convenient place for storage. Secondly, I want to edit some of my system files (such as config.sys). I've just opened the root of drive C: in My Computer and the files have somehow disappeared. Earlier posts suggest this behavior is often cured by clicking the keyboard Plus + key in the right side panel. Post back here with results. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

Open My Computer, goto Folder Option, and disable "Hide File Associations for Known File Types" Secondly, I want to edit some of my system files (such as config.sys). I've just opened the root of drive C: in My Computer and the files have somehow disappeared. Goto Folder Options again, this time change Hide System/Hidden files to Show All Files. ^_^ Hope this helps. |
