Default Network Logon at Startup is Missing

I have cable modem hooked up to computer with Windows ME through a new
D-Link wireless G router. I've also attached an older computer with
Windows98 (NOT SE) to the router with Cat-5 cable. I ran home networking
wizard and had everything working fine on both PC's - Win98 had access to
internet and I have some shared folders on both pc's that could be seen
through network neighborhood when both were on. BEAUTIFUL!

But now when I boot the Win98 PC the Microsoft Windows Networking logon
screen doesn't come up and it boots straight into Windows. Internet access
is okay like this but I can't see the shared folder on the WinME computer.
The only way to access it is to "Log off" the Win98 (not shutdown or
restart), then the logon screen appears and all is well again.

How can I get the logon screen to come up when Win98 starts? I tried the
items in Windows knowledgebase article 141858 with no luck. All the other
articles I see there tell how to turn off the logon screen - I even looked
at those to see if I could apply those steps in reverse to turn it on but
that didn't work either.

All help appreciated,

Phil

p.s. Before you start raggin' me about wiring a pc on a wireless network,
I've got another pc downstairs that's wireless to router/cable modem
upstairs. I'm setting up the wired pc upstairs as a host server for
MechWarrior4 (great game) and didn't want to suck up any of the wireless
bandwidth with it. Others who have set up game hosts have said that having
it wired seems to work better for hosting games then wireless.
