Default Eliminated LogOn but got stopped

My original post appears below (Aug 18 2004 2:18pm) re
wanting to eliminate LogOn box requiring password. I
followed instructions per Brian A. but got stopped (see
below). My LogOn box no longer appears, but am I in for
any trouble or glitch since I couldn't complete the whole
procedure in article #152104? Here's what happened:

Per article #156826 ("How to Disable & Delete User
Profiles), to ensure my user profiles were disabled, which
was stated as necessary to do before doing the steps in
article #152104 ("How to Prevent a Windows...98 Logon
Prompt...)", I performed: 1)restart computer; 2)at LogOn
screen, click Cancel; 3)go to Start-Settings-Control Panel
& double-click "Passwords". On User Profile tab,
click "All users of this PC use the same preferences &
desktop" - This box was already checked, so I just clicked
OK and restarted computer when prompted to do so.

Having confirmed my user profiles were disabled, I began
doing the steps in article #152104. When I got to Step 5,
there was no "Change Passwords" tab, so I shut down &
restarted & went back to "Passwords" in Control Panel and
that tab was now there. Upon typing in our password in
the "Change Windows Password" dialog box asking for the
old password, a box popped up saying it was invalid. THIS
CANNOT BE! - BECAUSE it is my husband's nickname, and we
have been using it every day to LogOn. I typed it several
times just to be sure I didn't do a typo, with the same
result.

So I cannot do Steps 6 thru 11 of article #152104.

Although I got my end result (LogOn box no longer
appears), I'm concerned I may be in for trouble since I
changed a setting per Steps 1 thru 5 and wasn't able to do
Steps 6 thru 11 (I followed Steps 1-5: double-clicked on
Network in Control Panel & on Configuration tab, clicked
Windows LogOn in the Primary Network LogOn box, then
clicked OK).

Did I mess up something I don't know about by not being
able to finish because of my invalid password?

Appreciate your help. Thanx very much.
