When and how should W98 detect .....
....that I've connected a PS2 mouse via adapter to COM1 ?
Currently all I get is a "mouse not detected ....." message at startup. Or is there some trick or another ? TIA Jona |

....that I've connected a PS2 mouse via adapter to COM1 ? Currently all I get is a "mouse not detected ....." message at startup. Maybe your adapter is broken? Once Windows has started, goto Start Control Panel Mouse (you can press the Windows key or Ctrl+Esc if you don't have one) then press Shift+Tab, then press Right Arrow key until you get to the General page. If there is nothing there, Alt+Tab back to Control Panel and try the Modems icon. Then look to see what is connected to your COM ports. |

It won't unless the mouse is also serial compatible. Check the tag on the
mouse and if it says P/S2 only on it, you will have to buy a serial mouse. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "jona" wrote in message ... ...that I've connected a PS2 mouse via adapter to COM1 ? Well, that would be it then. The com port works fine, etc, etc, but I was unaware that the mouse and adapter needed to be a match (if the mouse is serial compat at all). In fact looking at the PS2 connectors on those older boards - they also differ quite a bit. What a schlepp. Thanks to everyone for their input. Cheers Jona. |
