Thanks for the information.
No!
I haven't changed the Horizontal/Vertical settings, but I have a lot of
icons on my desktop. I don't think this can be the reason.
I searched Microsoft web pages, but I could find nothing.

I reinstalled my windows and now my auto-arrange icon is on, but I know that
my screen resolution was 600*800 when I had the problem and I had never
changed icon spacing. That was really a funny problem. Every time I
reinstalled my windows the problem was gone, but it came back after a while.
Right now I don't have the problem, it may appear after some while.

Thanks anyway.

Well, better read the articles to see whether you have some that are off
the visible area. Also, did you go look to see what your Icon Spacing
is? What? And what screen resolution?

You never changed the Icon Spacing is one thing, but some misbehaving
app may have a mind of it's own. So, you should have gone to see what it
was. One of those articles did say a cure might be to go to a larger
Screen Area. So, it could be some app is fooling with Screen Area
(resolution) or Icon Spacing. I do know some apps do complain when my
resolution is below 1024x768. (Could be my Compaq Diagnostics is one.)

I, myself, have sworn never to attempt to go below 1024x768 again, but
my memory begins to dim on precisely how horrible the experience was. I
think what happened was windows were too large to fit on the screen,
last time I broke that vow.
