Unable to install USB PCI card
I tried installing a SIIG USB2 PCI card in my relatives Gateway PC running
Windows ME. After installing the card in the PC and during the boot process an error message is displayed saying something like "unable to start cmdinst...". After "OKing" out of that, the system then detects new hardware and an installation wizard is started. If I go through the wizard though, it is unable to find a driver. After completing that, the screen just stays blank (never get the desktop). According to the installation instructions that came with the card, I should be able to cancel out of the wizard, and have the system finish booting to the desktop. From there I should be able to run the installation CD that came with the card. But since I can't get to the desk top, I can never run the CD. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Since this system has several USB1.1 ports, could there be a driver conflict? (Should I uninstall the old drivers first?). Thanks for any help with this. Pat |
