Assuming nothing else has changed - speakers enabled, plugged-in, etc. That
muting is not enabled in the Volume control. Then: Is the CD writer assigning the proper drive? Control PanelMultimediaCD tab. Be certain that the drive is correct. Also check there that the proper device is selected for playback.Checked device manager to see if the writer has been recognized? My computerpropertiesDevice manager tabCD Rom . Make sure there are no "?" or "!" at the device. Correct any instances where the above appears (if they appear). -- LuckyStrike -------------------------------------------------------------------- "mayanja" wrote in message ... have a samsung cd rom,and now installed a sony Cd writer;however since installing the sony cd writer I don,t get sound from speakers. The cd's appear to play but no sound. What could be wrong? |

Dear lucky strike, Thanks for your advise. I have checked that the speakers are plugged in.The proper drive is selected (the one connected to analag output). The sound is not muted. the sound card appears to be okay as well as the drivers. However I have noticed that on start a dialog props up stating that "q3dctl is not loaded" could this be the problem and how do I sort it out? |

Could be the problem. q3dctl appears to be the driver itself. So if it isn't
loading, how can one get any sound? Try re-installing the driver. -- LuckyStrike How to make a good newsgroup post: http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/post.html -------------------------------------------------------------------- "mayanja" wrote in message ... Dear Lucky Strike, Thanks again. My problem now where to find this driver and hence re-install it. Incidentally do I have to delete the one not loading as it is still listed? |

Mayanja -
You're welcome, but it isn't solved yet. ;-) Before proceeding any further, I would recommend removing and re-installing that which you had already. Your new Sony CD writer should have a set-up disk with it to install the driver for it. Perhaps it was somehow corrupted during the initial install. Make sure that you have disabled any AV program (not usually an issue, but can possibly be with some. I am thinking Norton and McAfee in particular) Start fresh with a clean re-boot before proceeding. Likewise, re-boot after the install. Again, it is important to open MY computerR-Click within itpropertiesdevice manager look if there are any "?" or " ! " within a warning triangle at the CD or Sound entries. Expand the respective entries and look there as well. Also after expanding them ( with the " + " box), highlight (select) each one and then click the properties box. Examine all three tabs, the first should indicate whether the device is working properly. The third is to check for Driver Updates, which normally uses MS for it's source. Not necessarily the best or most up to date. You can check it, but it's doubtful that anything will be found. If you have a means such as a disk that came with the new hardware, then it should do the set-up. In that case you can remove the device by the buttons or a right click and select remove. You never stated what OS your are using (XP, W2k, NT, ME, W98), but I assumed it was W98 as this is a W98 newsgroup. If all else fails, then see below. You can try one of these sites: http://allspider.com/dw/Drivers/pcisound/als300p/win9x/ The above site also has a help file for that driver. This seems to be an index from a private individual. For these sites, a log-in is required. http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/4/4944.htm http://members.driverguide.com/drive...?driverid=4944 For any of the above sites, I cannot vouch for the quality, reliability or trustworthiness of the files. I would suggest downloading the files to an isolated folder that you create for this purpose and scanning with an Anti Virus program. Don't "delete" the driver you have installed, but use the means in the device manager to remove it. That's about the best I can come up with. I sought out the driver from he http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...=Google+Search I hope this will help, but I cannot guarantee it. -- LuckyStrike How to make a good newsgroup post: http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/post.html -------------------------------------------------------------------- "mayanja" wrote in message ...
