Replace MB battery
I replaced the MB battery on my box recently.
TIP: Take digital pix of each screen before replacing the battery; then you can be sure to get back to your original settings. Replace MB battery
Good idea, Del........however, it has been my experience that the normal
time it takes to swap out a CMOS battery does not result in a loss of settings. I know of one instance, where the party was attempting to clear the CMOS settings by removing the battery and it took almost three days before it was cleared. But, you are right, it is better safe than sorry......the 'pic' idea is a good one. Heirloom, old and have mine backed up "Delboy" wrote in message ... I replaced the MB battery on my box recently. Replace MB battery
Interesting comments Heirloom. It only took me a few seconds to replace but
in that time quite a few settings had changed plus clock completely out and on boot, before I had a chance to hit "Delete" the box jumped straight into BIOS mode and said "Bad checksum" or words to that effect. -- Delboy A common mistake that people made when trying to design something completely foolproof was to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. Replace MB battery
Hmmmm, I would then suspect that your battery had already failed completely.
Keep in mind, I'm no guru, however, I have changed many CMOS batteries and know many others that have and BIOS settings have never been lost. As I said, yours is the safe route to take, for sure (plus, it would save a lot of writing, g). I know it is recommended that the settings be "copied" in some manner and I would surely go with that. My post was just an FYI thing........not to be construed with normal operating procedure. It would be interesting to hear the experiences of others.......... Replace MB battery
Could be right about the already failed battery, Heirloom. The box was
bought 07/01 and goodness knows how long it had been on the shelf before that. ;-) The Windows clock kept showing some date in Feb, 2036 on boot quite a few times; lately with monotonous regularity, so I guess it was well due for replacement. Not arguing over your experiences at all, Heirloom. Just my luck that I am the exception that proves the rule. (whatever that expression means :-)) As you say interesting to hear of other's experiences. -- Delboy A common mistake that people made when trying to design something completely foolproof was to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. Heirloom, old and thinks it is going to rain We're still looking for it up here in PA, H. Where the battery is concerned, you are right, change it 'carefully' and done with. Good Luck, Delboy. Harry.
