true color no longer an option
My display has reverted to 8-color and it won't change
even when I select a higher setting from control panel - display - settings. ALso, "true color" is no longer listed as a setting option. Any ideas? |

If you just reinstalled Windows, or you cannot change to 256, 16 bit, or 32
bit color, you probably need to reinstall your video card drivers. To reinstall your video card drivers, you need to know the exact make and model of your video card in order to install the correct/updated drivers. There are several ways to determine what kind of video card you have. 1. Check the manual that came with your PC. 2. You can open your PC tower to look at the video card and note the name and numbers printed on it. 3. You can download and run this program from MajorGeeks.com. It might be able to determine what kind of video card you have: AIDA32 - Enterprise System Information 3.93 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=183 To find the Aida32 info you need to post, run the Aida32 program, and click the + sign next to Computer on the left side of your screen then click Summary. Then Right click the information on the *right* side of your screen and select Copy. You can then paste the information in Notepad or paste it directly to this newsgroup. Aida32 will tell you a lot about what's inside your PC. In addition to telling us the *Brand and Model Number* of your computer, please post back the information Aida32 reports for your: Motherboard CPU Chipset Display PCI/AGP Video Display GPU This information will assist us in finding the correct video drivers, and directing you to the video card manufacturer's website so you can download and install them. *** IMPORTANT *** Remember to tell us the *Brand and Model Number* of your computer which is printed on your PC case or is listed in the manual that came with your computer. You have an S3 trio video card.
These are the drivers for your video card: 9x26106.zip 422k 1998 Sep 17 Binary-Trio 3D Win 95/98 MS Logo'd v. 2.61.06 -Prod You can get them he http://ranger.s3graphics.com/swlib/365drv/ Create a folder on your desktop called Video Drivers. Download the video drivers to it. Right click and extract the files to the *same folder*, or extract it using one of the free zip utilities from the PC World Magazine website: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...id,6531,00.asp **If you already have the drivers extracted in a folder you can find, then start here.** Since the drivers do not have a self-installer so you will have to follow these installation instructions for Example 2 or Example 3: DRIVER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel. Start the "Display" applet program. Select the "Settings" page, push the "Change Display Type" button. Push the "Change" button in the "Adapter Type" area. Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK". Specify the path to the new driver and press the ENTER key: Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you copied the drivers, either on your local hard drive or on a network share. (***This will be the Video Drivers folder you created on your Desktop***) Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers are, choose the "Browse..." button are find them. (***This will be the Video Drivers folder you created on your Desktop***) The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter that corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and click OK. Windows 95 (or Windows 98) will copy the display drivers to the proper directories on your system. Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from the "Systems Settings Change" dialog box. After the system has restarted, you can go back into the Display applet and select alternate screen resolutions and color depths. Make sure you *temporarily* disable your anti-virus program since it can interfere with the video drivers installation process. Reboot your computer. Joe wrote in message ... Here's the copy. Thanks! Looks like either the video card or monitor got changed by windows...
This has happened to me a couple of times. right click on the desktop and goto properties. and goto the display settings. look for a line above the color quality and screen resolution. it sould say something like "Plug and Play Monitor on Intel Graphics Controller." that's what is says for the machine i am currently on. if the if the video card says something like Super VGA, VGA, or something like those 2. then that is probably your problem and you will need to reinstall your video card drivers. |
