Default Installing DSL

But if winme is used to control the ppp negotiation, which is what we're
talking about in this thread,
then we're talking dial up networking.

Also, what we are talking about in this thread is getting DSL to work on an
ME machine (with or without the Verizon software). The OP never said that
they wanted/needed/preferred/desired, etc. the connection to be managed by
ME. The OP was about getting DSL working on ME.

Jim, if you have DSL, then you need a DSL router/modem regardless of what OS
you have on your pc. Because of this, you don't need ME to *control* the
connection, it is done by the router. One of my machines is Widows ME and
it does NOT have DUN installed on it, yet it *uses* my DSL connection.

You're missing the point.

You can connect using a router to negotiate ppp as we both appear to
do or, as is probably the case from the information gleaned in the OP,
there is no router only a USB modem. This will require the operating
system (winme) to look after the ppp negotiation. That's dialup
networking.

You are assuming the OP has a router and judging from his post he
doesn't have one.

Jim.
