install shut down pc completely

I did this and someone else did several other things and
together, we got my pc to recognize both cd and dvd
drives. However, the cd writer isn't writing and the
software that WAS there is no longer anywhere. Also, in
one of the startup files (autoexec.bat, config.sys -I'm
not sure which one" there is a line, well two lines that
read - MSDOS compatability mode real mode drivers or
something like that.... help what''s going on

1. You already said that you removed all the files related to the program
that started all of this--that was a mistake because you don't just delete
files and folders to uninstall a program. You use its uninstall routine.
That way, configuration file entries and Registry entries get removed as
well. Most important is the Registry, which is why I had you restore an
earlier one.

2. Make *sure* both the digital camera files are gone or uninstalled, then
look for the program folder for the CD writing software. You don't mention
the brand, so I can't help you find it. Also, look in Add/Remove Programs
for it. If it's there, uninstall it. Otherwise, look in the Program Folder
to see if there's any ReadMe files or Uninstall.exe files Figure out, one
way or another, how to uninstall it. But *do_not* just start deleting files.
If you can't figure it out, leave them alone.

3. Go to http://aumha.org/regfiles.php#noide and get the NOIDE fix. Unpack
it from the ZIP file, right-click it and Merge. Remember where you saved it
to. Might need it again

4. Open both CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT in Notepad, copy the contents to a
reply here, but don't send yet. Leave the message open. Then use Start/Run
menu to run MSINFO32. Expand Software Environment, then click on (open)
Startup Items. Click your mouse anywhere in the right-hand pane, then press
Ctrl-A to Select All, then Ctrl-C to Copy. Back to the message in progress,
use Ctrl-V to Paste that info. Send.

Add one item to that procedu While in MSCONFIG the first time around,
click the Advanced button at lower right. Enable Startup Menu. First time
around, when the Startup Menu appears, choose Normal Mode. Clean up TEMP
files, etc. When you have a decently clean boot, *if* you have a drivers
installation file for the DVD drive, run it. DO NOT install any burning
software or other junk--just the DVD drivers. Yes, you've probably already
done this before, just do it again. Do not run MSCONFIG to change back to a
Normal boot yet. Then restart (If you have USB devices attached to your
system, other than mouse or keyboard, shut down, here, and disconnect them.)

6. This time, at the Startup Menu choose Safe Mode. Go to Device Manager.
Remove ALL drives, ALL controllers, and the System device called PCI Bus.
Also look for anything related to the camera and remove it. Then look around
for any duplicated entries. Write them all down for posting back here later.

7. Restart the machine. See how it goes. Do *not* install any software, yet.
If drivers can't be found for the DVD, cancel the DVD installation. You will
need to restart at least once to finish reinstalling drivers. See how
everything works.

8. Manually restart your antivirus background scanner and firewall, then
come directly to this newsgroup. Read what has probably by then been written
about your configuration files, and post, again, the same stuff I mentioned
earlier--CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT and the info from MSINFO32. Wait for a
reply to that before going any further. It's better not to possibly
re-enable something or three that will put you back to where you started,
but you also don't want to be trying to do "normal" things with your machine
until this is licked. Also, how about you provide us with specifics on your
DVD hardware and software.
