Missing .DLL file
Trying to load EarthLink software, I get the message .DLL
not found (OLEACC.DLL) I reloaded my system disk for Windows 98 and still get the same error? |

Missing .DLL file
Perhaps the OLEACC.DLL is actually missing. Start find files/folders,
to verify. Should have one in c:\windows/system. If it is missing, one could extract another: Start Run SFC. Then select "extract one from instalation disk", then browse to c:\win98cabs or other hard drive store of win98cab files, select OLEACC.DLL. Alternatively some spyware may be responsible. There is a newsgroup "microsoft.public.security.virus" that has a FAQ (frequently asked questions) message that gives a good guide to spyware fighters. More expert persons please correct any errors in my comments wrote in message ... Missing .DLL file
Historically this means not only the possibility that a file is missing, but
also that it may be there, but is a version that is not compatible with the software you are trying to install. Please advise if you have searched your system to confirm that the file is missing before we go any further. -- Hyperlinks are used to ensure advice remains current _______________________________________ Sandi - Microsoft MVP since 1999 (IE/OE) http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/ wrote: Trying to load EarthLink software, I get the message .DLL not found (OLEACC.DLL) I reloaded my system disk for Windows 98 and still get the same error? |

I had the same issue, but a bit different, Sandi. I downloaded the
"oleacc.dll" from a download.dll site (w Norton antivirus turned off), then opened it onto my desktop and the tried to register it by opening it, using regsvr32.exe, by browsing into the Windows/System file to get a program to open OLEACC. But then I got this error msg: LoadLibrary("C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\oleacc.dll") failed. GetLastError returns 0x0000045a. Can you advise? I get an oleacc.dll error message every time I boot, and I need the file working so I can run Earthlink and their home networking software. I recently did a re-install of win98 including a reformat, and then ran complete Windows update. Many thanks for any light you can shed on this. I do not believe that downloading and installing one file from a 'download
site' is suffient to fix problems. You need to make sure that the version you install is correct for the operating system, and software, that you have installed on your machine. There is no 'one size fits all' download which is what these download sites seem to promise. Check out this URL: http://support.microsoft.com/default...asp&SD=MS&FR=0 It is an excellent service to help you work out what is the latest version suitable for the software installed on your system. -- _______________________________________ Sandi - Microsoft MVP since 1999 (IE/OE) http://inetexplorer.mvps.org "Paul Conrad" wrote in message ... Thank you so much for providing that HIGHLY useful link. I'm afraid many of
us don't bother to track down Microsoft's own support tools before rushing to scream "help!" in a google search box. I'll post back after I get the right ..dll pickle. Problem is in obtaining and registering correct v. of OLEACC.DLL for my Dell
Dimension 266 (256mb, 2GB w/ 50% free) following a re-installation of Windows 98, that included re-formatting. After replacing a broken ethernet card w/ a new CNet Pro200WL Fast Ethernet Adapter, I had trouble installing the CNet’s drivers, so did the re-install w/ phone guidance from a Dell tech support. Did a complete set of updates via MS Win98 site. Now, on booting the system, I get the error message: "Error Starting Program: A required .dll file, OLEACC.DLL was not found." I need this .dll to run EarthLink's home network software, and EL's e-mail client TotalAccess. (IE 6 works fine going direct to the cable modem, and the router is working fine, too.) I’ve tried to install oleacc.dll from various sources, but without success. Per MS’s DLL Help Database (thanx, Sandi!), there are 5 possible versions available: a.) 4.2.2209.0 for Windows 98SE; b.) 4.2.1210.0 for Windows 98; c.) 4.2.3130.0 for Windows Millenium; d.) 4.2.3100.0 for Windows 2000 Prof., and Windows NT; and e.) 4.2.5406.0 for Windows Server, and Windows XP (2002). I have sources for 3 of these versions, as follows: 4.2.2209.0 is in the WIN98_39 folder on a Dell “Product Recovery CD for Windows 98 SE; then I have 4.2.1210.0 in the WIN98_36CAB folder of a Windows 98 Upgrade CD shipped with my Dell in April ’98. And finally, I have a copy of 4.2.5406.0 that I downloaded from www.dll-files.com. Attempting to simply copy them into the System folder hasn’t worked. When I try to register them using RegSvr32 (booted from Windows\System32 folder) I get the following error message: LoadLibrary(“C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\oleacc.dll) failed. GetLastError returns 0x0000045a. Can't be hopeless, as I was happily using EL's Home Networking a few weeks ago. Btw, my System Properties dates the Windows 98 system as 4.10.1998. How can I copy the right oleacc.dll to my system folder…and, Which One should it be? I read C. Quirke’s essay here http://cquirke.mvps.org/9x/dllhell.htm and almost wept. Thanks to all, Paul "Sandi - Microsoft MVP" wrote: I'll look forward to hearing from you Paul. -- _______________________________________ Sandi - Microsoft MVP since 1999 (IE/OE) http://inetexplorer.mvps.org "Paul Conrad" wrote in message ... Hi Paul,
This is getting beyond me; I'd install the latest version for Win98, but it looks to me like drivers for the CNET are causing the problem. If it were me I'd start from scratch, and then install only one update at a time, testing after each update. I'd also go to the CNET web site, see if there is any sort of online support or knowledge base and make sure you have the most appropriate software for your system. -- _______________________________________ Sandi - Microsoft MVP since 1999 (IE/OE) http://inetexplorer.mvps.org "Paul Conrad" wrote in message ...
