Logon--How to Avoid?
We have WinMe on a desktop and Win98SE on a laptop. Neither PC will boot up
without stopping to demand a Windows password. This means that we can't go off and do something else while the machine takes forever to start but have to sit there and await the message. Is there a good way to get rid of this logon? We don't actually have any Windows passwords anyway (if there is a good reason to have one we would consider doing so), so we always press Cancel. But we still have to sit there until the message pops up. If I go to Control Panel, Network, I can change this to a logon for Client for Microsoft but we would still have to wait for that while the PC boots up. Suggestions? -- Joe McGuire |

Uhh . . . I should have read a prior post referring to Article 152104 which
pretty much answers my question. FYI I went into Control Panel, Networks, and first deleted Client for Microsoft Networks and then made sure the login was set to Windows Login. Then I searched for the password file(so) *.pwl and renamed them *.old. When I rebooted I got a Windows login message that gave me the option of bypassing the login, although it does not tell you how. I bypassed it by pressing Enter. Next time I rebooted--no Windows login! JWM "Joseph McGuire" wrote in message ... We have WinMe on a desktop and Win98SE on a laptop. Stop LogOn Prompt at Boot
Using the Client for Microsoft Network Logon is only necessary if you're logging on to a Windows NT/2000 domain or server. All peer-to-peer networking functions are available using Windows Logon as the primary network logon. To eliminate the logon prompt, set the primary network logon to Windows Logon and use an empty password, as described in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article: How to Prevent a Windows Me/98/95 Logon Prompt at Startup http://support.microsoft.com/support.../q152/1/04.asp -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Desktop Systems) ----- -- Jack E. Martinelli 2002-05 MS MVP for Shell/User / DTS Help us help you: http://www.dts-L.org/goodpost.htm http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...t/default.aspx Your cooperation is very appreciated. ------ "Joseph McGuire" wrote in message ...
