No, I have the OEM CD, just need the latest fixes, that is al, I'll go have
a poke about, thanks. Terhune" wrote in message ... Is *what* available as a download? The OEM Win98 SE? No. You have to buy it. As for updates, get the Windows Security Update CD at http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp Every Windows system from 98 to ME and NT to XP should have one of this in its stock of basic CDs. Will bring the system up to date as of October '03. No, it's not available as a single download, and yes, it would be huge--one to two hundred megabytes or more *if* it was customized just for 98, which it isn't. As for Runtimes, VBRUN60SP5.EXE needs to be downloaded, the VC++ Runtimes are pretty much covered in the Updates CD (as part of MDAC, for instance) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...d-cdf2d29a79d5 You will also want to make sure your new hardware supports 98 and that you have drivers on hand for install. I don't know why you think you need this OS to run your app. XP has Compatibility Modes to handle a lot of the issues that you might be concerned about. But you don't describe the app, so there's no way for me to comment further. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP for Win9x "Brian Gaff" wrote in message ... I am hoping to use an oldish OEM copy of win 98SE to install the OS on a modern machine. I am doing this because I need that system to run some software. I want it to be up to date with its security updates and vbs runtimes etc. Is thsi available as a download in one hit, and if so, is it likely to be huge, as I'm on dialup, if not is there a vendor who might have the required bits on CD, or would simply installing the latest IE do the business anyway? Thanks.
