Winzip woes~further
It seems my partner in Thailand has received an MSWorks file
(536Kb) OK, which I sent unzipped. When I zip the file, he is unable to open it. Any clues? thoughts? I have uninstalled Winzip, downloaded a free version8 and installed that, to no avail. I do think I may have uninstalled winzip via add/remove programs. Is there a way to uninstall, and have all remaining "bit and pieces" perhaps in registry removed before installing Version 8 again? Thanks. |

As I told you before, there's nothing wrong with your WinZip. It is either a
server somewhere along the way that is messing up your attachment, or your partner's email client, or his installation of WinZip is messed up. Please, I'm *sure* that your WinZip is OK. No need to worry about it anymore. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "Rodney" wrote in message ... It seems my partner in Thailand has received an MSWorks file (536Kb) OK, which I sent unzipped. G'day Gary,
Just as FYI........more as a curiosity than anything, here is my mates reply just a moment ago, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- good to hear the family are safe ok 07-08 13 14 15 21-22 you sent one unzipped and zipped for the 23 -24-26-27 the unzipped came through ok the zipped couldnt open, has to be aproblem my end will get upto date then try and fix later dave ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now the curious thing is, A Zipped program from another source (a company) I can send, and David can open it. When I send a file I have zipped he cannot. I accept you say my zip program is OK, but you would have to agree, that the situation is a little weird. | As I told you before, there's nothing wrong with your WinZip. I don't know what to say, Rodney. We seem to have covered all the possible
issues. There only seems to be a problem with files that *you* zip, AND that *you* send, but only when your partner is on the receiving end. That's a bit hard to swallow. If your email was working, or some other way for me to privately transmit the link to the copy of your Zip file that I put on my site, we might be able to figure it out--or we might not be able to. It's all very strange. PS--You have my email address--send me another Zip file, but one that doesn't contain anything that should remain private. Doesn't have to be large. Any file will do. I'll check it again, and also put it on my site and post the link here. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "Rodney" wrote in message ... You are too kind, Gary.
I'll send a zipped small MSWorks V4.5a file, that should be arcane enough for most modern users and is one my colleague can try and open. You're a good bloke. | I don't know what to say, Rodney. I would be more interested in seeing a .zip file that your friend *cannot* open, for
comparison. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Rodney" wrote in message ... You are too kind, Gary. I got one of those, though it was simply a copy from Rodney's system. While
WinZip had no problems with it--no error messages or other odd events, I don't have MSWorks installed (and seem to have given away my last copy), so I couldn't actually test the file. MSWorks DB files don't convert to much else, sigh. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "glee" wrote in message ... I don't have Works installed either.....but Rodney says his friend can't open the
zip file, so that should not matter. I was wondering if there was any difference in the properties of the two zip files....the one he can and the one he can't open. Winzip File menu Properties (of the open zip file). Perhaps encryption is set on the one, or something? -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Gary S.
