Default DISPLAY PROBLEM

WHEN I CONNECTED MY MONITOR TO THE COMPUTER I GET THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE.
"IF YOU CAN READ THIS MESSAGE, WINDOWS HAS SUCCESFULLY INITIALIZED THIS DISPLAY ADAPTER. TO USE THIS ADAPTER AS PART OF YOUR WINDOWS DESKTOP, OPEN THE DISPLAY OPTION IN THE CONTROL PANEL AND ADJUST THE SETTINGS ON THE SETTINGS TAB"
BUT ALL I HAVE IS A BLANK SCREEN WITH THIS MESSAGE AND A BLINKING CURSER
AND NO WAY TO GET INTO WINDOWS.
ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED

Default DISPLAY PROBLEM

Make sure your monitor is connected to the correct output on your computer.
If your video card has two monitor connectors, move the monitor cable to the
other connector; if you have two monitor connections on the back of your PC,
try the other one.

I don't see how - the message you are seeing can only happen with two or
more display adapters (or a two-head single display adapter) and the monitor
is connected to the wrong adapter. Unless this is a laptop of course, in
which case your laptop screen is the primary.
