EXPLORER caused a page fault in module EXPLORER.EXE. Can't start
I have a problem with my son's three-year-old Dell PC: Win98 SE, 833, 40g HD.
It was filled with malware that I removed with Adaware and Spybot. Microsoft notified me that there were a number of MS upgrades available. I applied the upgrades one evening without monitoring the progress. The next morning Windows wouldn't run because of several missing DLL files, SHLWAPI and WININET, specifically. I loaded these to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM but now I am unable to get the PC to boot, even in safe mode. Pressing F8 or holding down the CTRL key has no effect, it tries to start and then gives me the message "This program has completed an illegal operation and will be shut down". I've visited several Microsoft KB articles, but none has helped me. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. |
