What's the best version of Azureus for Win98SE?

What was the best version to install on Windows 98SE, as it's obvious the updater wasn't working as I hadn't updated it in at least two years. I do know it had been updated since it was installed, so my old installer that I saved on a CD is obsolete. Also, where can I find the appropriate download link for said version? Alternately, what would be the best bitorrent application to install on my old Windows 98SE computer? Hmm, just for legal downloads right... Try old versions: http://www.oldversion.com/Azureus.html And why did you post the request in this group? -- Well, that shows me the old versions, but which one is the best for Win98SE? I suppose that would be more of your own *personal determination* than the actual program. Just as it is for any other application where someone might like one particular version over a newer or older one, just because they don't like the interface change, or some change in menu, or other like activities. Remember that this is apparently a JAVA implementation, so JAVA vulnerabilities are inherent in the program. It might be advisable to keep apprised of any warnings and fixes therein related. I was hoping to be told that there was either a version that worked well in 98 before they started restricting features to the NT line, or to be told that the latest version works best as it has the most features for that OS. As I said, I use the Windows 98 computer as my primary torrent machine BECAUSE it is obsolete, therefore I don't have to tie up my good computer's resources. Even though it runs in the background, it's still degrading performance. * * * As for why this group? Which group should I have used? Azureus is an internet file sharing program. File sharing and internet == network. Okay, reasonable explanation... definitely a network when peered to others using Azureus/Tor activities. Then again, that would make ANY activity done out here networking, which it is. That far reaching understanding usually escapes most people. It seems I missed the M.P.W.internet group, as I only saw the subgroups that didn't seem relevant. You were right to ask, and upon rereading the quote it seems I came off far more sarcastic than was intended. I was trying to legitimately ask, but it came across far more crass than I intended. My deficiency at tact strikes again. Wish I could help with a version but... You could always try the gen_discussion group... networking and Internet [and most others] in the 9X discussion groups aren't posted in very much anymore. -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.org/ref/windows-main.htm Windows Info, Diagnostics, Security, Networking http://peoplescounsel.org The "real world" of Law, Justice, and Government ___--- |

What's the best version of Azureus for Win98SE?
Hot-text top-poasted and full-quoted:
I can not why some one would not buy a new window 98 CD. for they going for $0.50 to $15.00 Why buy a win-98 cd from someone? You think that that's the proper or legal way to obtain win-98? The truth is that buying a win-98 cd from someone on e-bay is not the same as buying a music or movie CD. You probably will NOT have the legal rights to run win-98 even if you have a real win-98 CD in your hands that you bought from e-bay. In two hours you can torrent your own copy of win-98. No hassles with e-bay or shipping or junk like that. There is no difference in buying a win-98 cd from e-bay vs downloading it with a torrent. Microsoft would have a problem with either method. And yes, uTorrent is probably the best torrent program for win-98. |

Absolutely stupid argument. So because you believe legal transference will not occur anyway, you suggest downloading an illegal and likely hacked version from a torrent. If the purchased or otherwise CD has its own *real COA* with it, it provides a legal method to avoid illegal activities and provides "peace of mind" to those who prefer to remain on the bright side of Laws. We [you and I] discussed legal transference in win98.gen_discussion several times over the course of years since 2006. There ARE ways and 98 products which can be transferred LEGALLY. This the *98 networking* group, keep your personal trash and attempts to further illegal torrent activities in an appropriate forum. And yes, uTorrent is probably the best torrent program for win-98. Any program which requires or relies upon JAVA, is, in itself, a potential danger due to the inherent insecurities and vulnerabilities internal to JAVA, such as the Azureus application. Also so note: when connected via TOR as with any file sharing activity, you have allowed access into your personal computer and network. -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.org/ref/windows-main.htm Windows Info, Diagnostics, Security, Networking http://peoplescounsel.org The "real world" of Law, Justice, and Government ___--- |

So because you believe legal transference will not occur anyway, you suggest downloading an illegal and likely hacked version from a torrent. Yes I do. And I've examined several such torrents and found them to be genuine - not hacked. If the purchased or otherwise CD has its own *real COA* with it, it provides a legal method to avoid illegal activities It does not garantee that the product key that accompanies the COA is not still in use on a win-98 system being operated by or known to the seller. And there is no garantee that the COA will accompany the CD, or that it's not a duplicate or a fake. And there is no garantee that the CD/COA/Product-key is not for an OEM version of win-98, one for which can't be installed on hardware other than that for which it originally came installed on nor can be transfered to a new owner WITHOUT the hardware on which it originally came installed on. and provides "peace of mind" to those who prefer to remain on the bright side of Laws. It does no such thing. If someone wants to have a genuine win-98 CD, then fine - that's what you *might* end up recieving from an e-bay vendor. If you're really lucky, the CD and it's accompanying product key *might* be able to let you install install itself on the hardware of your choice. But that still doesn't mean that in the end you'll own and be operating a valid license in the eyes of Microsoft. Not that I'm against that. I fully support the downloading, uploading, copying, sharing and using of all Microsoft software and product activation keys in complete and utter violation of their EULA - because Micro$haft is a psychopathic and criminal organization that does not deserve protection under law of it's products. This the *98 networking* group, keep your personal trash and attempts to further illegal torrent activities in an appropriate forum. I didn't start this thread here in this newsgroup. |

Please supply your full name, phone number and address so anyone following your advise can take legal action against you should they received malware or be prosecuted. All true to a point, however, there *IS* a guarantee that a Win9X or other commercial software they download from a torrent IS ILLEGAL. and provides "peace of mind" to those who prefer to remain on the bright side of Laws. No, you are the psychopathic lier, a thief, and suffer from severe mental disabilities. The key, official COA, and receipt, at least provide reasonable recourse should that be necessary. This the *98 networking* group, keep your personal trash and attempts to further illegal torrent activities in an appropriate forum. I didn't start this thread here in this newsgroup. But you did choose to attempt to further illegal activities, as usual. The proper answer was to address the question with your suggested uTorrent application.
