scanner not scanning
I am using windows Me with an Epson stylus all in one printer. Epson
technical support said the Stimon driver is not up and running. We tried to re-install everything but the yellow exclamation mark remains under device manager. Any ideas how to do this or is there an update for this driver. My video cam works but we unplugged it and moved the folder outside the system in case it was interferring. It is connected directly to the USB in the back of the tower. The printer and copy work just fine. so it's not the hardware. |

Has the printer ever worked on the PC? Did you install the printer's
drivers before plugging it in? -- Mike Maltby scanner not scanning wrote: I am using windows Me with an Epson stylus all in one printer. .... Epson technical support said the Stimon driver
is not up and running. For starters, check-out both of the following KB articles and see if the second fixes the problem. "Description of Still Image Monitor (Stimon.exe)" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257815/en-us "Error Message When You Start Computer: Stimon Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Kernel32.dll" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306393/en-us If not, try to give an error message report or other details of what EXACTLY happens when you try to scan, e.g. does this only happen when you use the scanner buttons. Does this also/only happen when you 'Import' your scanner into one of your applications or try it thru' the Control Panel etc,. What about the software application 'bundled' with your scanner. BTW - which model of scanner/printer are you using and is it WinMe and USB 1.1 compatible? Mart "scanner not scanning" wrote in message ... The printer works just fine as does the copying part. Th drivers were
installed before it was plugged into the USB port and turned on. The Epson support spent almost an hour with me re-installing etc. It is somehow the problem in the stimon.exe and there is a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager that we can't get rid of for the scanner to work. Is there a way to replace this stimon.exe easily? "Mike M" wrote: Has the printer ever worked on the PC? I have read both articles and the second one on how to replace the
stimon.exe sounds somewhat daunting, especially if you make an error. What exactly happens when I click on the scan icon, a message comes up saying Epson Scan cannot be started. It is an Epson Sylus CX3810. I don't know of any other way to get it activated. There aren't any scan buttons on the printer itself, just to copy and they work just fine. "Mart" wrote: .... The CX3810 is not available in the UK but according to the Epson USA site,
:- Operating Systems: Windows USB - Windows 98SE, Me, 2000 or XP and USB 2.0 compatible, so I ASS-U-ME that it is also USB 1.1 compatible. Also, Epson's Troubleshooting Tech support for this model soon brings you back to their contact number when shooting problems with the scanner g However, the second KB article is not as daunting as it first seems. Print the page out and have it to hand for reference. BUT !! if in doubt, be sure that your System Restore is working OK and set a SR point BEFORE you start. That way, if you make an error in your registry, you can easily return to your SR point to correct it. Mart "scanner not scanning" wrote in message ... I have printed the pages and will re-read them carefully and try it. What is
system restore and how so I set a SR (I assume System restore) point before I start. The rest of the computer is working just fine and don't want to mess it up. To use System Restore (SR).....which in case of a screwup on your end,
allows you to restore your computer to the state it was when you made the Restore Point.....or to be clear....before you started mucking about with the fix.. Start/Programs/Accessories/SystemTools/System Restore. Click on the last one. That will bring up a screen with 3 choices....you want the one that says "Create Restore Point" (or words to that effect). Click on that and then for a title, put in "fixing scanner" or some such. OK your way out and then continue with Mart's instructions. SO....if something untoward happens (which is shouldn't), you can now go back into System Restore and click on the button that says "Restore to an Earlier Time" (or some such) and it will take your computer back to prior to your mucking around. Not terribly techie words, but I am sure you get the point, lol. I have an Epson printer and it was really *touchy* to put on WinME. Not much better on XP either. Read up on SR in your Help section if you want to understand it better. Cheers....Heather And guys.....correct me if I left anything out. Doing most of this from memory of WinME (dormant behind me, lol) "scanner not scanning" wrote in message ... I have printed the pages and will re-read them carefully and try it. PS....when you have to go back in time with System Restore, never go
back more than a week!! Plus you pick the day and time you want to restore to.....it is not an automatic thing obviously. Then sit back and let SR do its thing. It does reboot btw.
