cant save or view pictures

Every time i save a picture from my e-mail i cant view it.
or get it to come up. this is something new. all my
other previously saved pictures whether saved from e-mail
or scanned show up but everything else is blank. i get
a "choose what program youd like to open this with".

What type of format are the files? Use the program associated with the =
extension to open the file/s.
