Default Serious modem error... need help...

Dear friends again Im writing to ask for your kindly help:

I have problems with my modem. The applications as 'Dial-
Up Networking' and my Terra access to=20
internet have serious difficulties to identify my modem.=20
This has started since I have some=20
problems with files in the \Windows folder... =BFsomething=20
has delete?... maybe an INI... =BFhow can
I fix this?

When I use the 'Dial-Up Networking' it says:

"Cant complete the connection:
Error 633
The modem is not installed or is not configured for 'Dial-
Up Networking'. To verify the modem=20
configuration, make click in the modems icon in the=20
Control Panel."

Then I go to check in Modems (in the Control Panel) and it=20
says that the modem is installed:

"Port: COM2
Interrup: 0
Direction: 2F8
UART: NS 16550AN
Maximun Velocity: 115Kbaudios

Conexant HCF v90 56k Data Fax PCI Modem
Identifier: PCI\HCF020A"

Also I have a connection for:
Conexant HCF v90 56k Data Fax PCI Modem #2
and the same previous information is shown again...

When I go to My PC properties - Device Manager I seach for=20
modem and find it installed and shows
me that the device is working correctly verifying the=20
information in Modems (in the Control Panel).
However I should say that the one that is currently here=20
is:
Conexant HCF v90 56k Data Fax PCI Modem #2, shown above.

When checking in 'Dial-Up Networking' properties it ask me=20
to choose a modem. In the general applet
is says:

"Connect using:
Conexant HCF v90 56k Data Fax PCI Modem #2"
=BFbut why doesnt it recognize an allow to select the modem?

As a possible solution I reinstall the modem drivers but=20
the problem is still there. I dont know
what more to do, please help me... the worst of all this=20
is that this machine is not mine, is from
my family.

A final comment, the same since the problems with files in=20
the \Windows folder started I have see
that when "Restarting" or "Shut down my PC" sometimes=20
there is a message error like:

"TAPISRV error"
there is a little window and a cancel button... I push it=20
and the operation continues but more=20
slow... =BFsomething has delete?... =BFwhat is this error=20
about and how can I fix this?

Ill appreciate a lot your help. (I have Windows 98 SE=20
installed)

Sincerely,
Javier Almenara.

Default

Remove the modem that doesn't exist from device manager, The system might be
confused as a result of having two modem devices when only one modem is
installed.

In Networking in Control panel, remove your networking protocols and
re-install them.
