There's another set of flash puzzle games that are a bit surreal, but I
can't remember the name now - the first one you have to redirect an
oncoming asteroid? to stop it hitting your planet (you're a white ghosty
thing and you fly your Eastern European cola can to it at the start).

Samorost? A flash game. I like those because they save easily, and are
self
contained.

Thanks!

Ah, I hadn't realised they were ohs not zeros.

In Xnews they also look like zeros. Courier New size 10 in W98 is an
excellent font but I think Xnews renders the text in size 9, flattening
capital O to look like numeric 0. Side by side compa O0. Some font sizes
will remove any distinction! Same applies to I and l, (Capital I and
lowercase L). I settled on Courier New 10 because it had visible distinctions
at all times, then M$ changed it in WXP, one of the reasons I didn't go
there. Too many things I'd come to depend on being removed, or made slow and
awkward, and wasteful of screen space.

(Any links?)

Google 'Notpron'. This one IS unmissable. Just avoid the cheats amd
walkthroughs because they are no fun unless you end up with a riddle you KNOW
you have the right answer for, but it still won't work. Rare, but it happens,
one uses a font with characters that work fine with FireFox, not with Opera.
One hint: Save all passwords and URL's as you go. They are sometimes used in
later riddles.

Colossal Cave (a. k. a. just "Adventure") was/is a text-based game - you
navigated various locations (mostly underground) with simple commands
like "go north", "get object", "look", and the computer told you - in
text - what it saw. I have an affection for it.

Interesting idea, and we could build a good image of it as we go, but I
usually like to avoid text in games, because most things I do involve text
already, when I'm working on a computer. I like the way 3D imagine is done on
a computer, with motion and parallax. Making stuff in SketchUp is like a
game.

(I think you'd like Colossal Cave. No role-playing.) Again, any links
to Chasm? If it gave you such pleasure ...

Not sure, I saved it.. I also had to pick out the URL's to various
component files it had, for sounds and a timer. Colossal Cave sounds
good, like they have the right idea, a world that draws people in,
instead of blatting at them. Got to say I liked HalfLife, the little I
played of it. So much attention to detail. But I either prefer to use
the computer itself as the game (is why I like the Notpron riddle), or
to play Flash games like Catapult. Mindless, harmless (but sadistic)
fun. And at times, the earlier Miniputt flash games. Another keeper is
'Pearls Before Swine'. That geezer with the tallow-candle face and the
weird attitude. LIke a showman from Rod Serling's fairground.

Another one, which English people might get into more than most: Cricket. As
in, 'Well played, that badger!" Good times..

Yes. The rocket was a sausage tin(!) I noticed when having a nostalgic
look.

I didn't remember that. I got a feeling the authors were no strangers to
shrooms though.
