ICS. Host freezes when client requests web address
I need help with a Win 98SE Internet Connection Sharing Install.
The Host is a 400MHz PII with 2 NICs and a Cable Modem. There is one client which is a 1.0 GHz processor. Both machines run Win98SE. ICS has worked before on these machines but got corrupted during a computer move, when settings were altered. The LAN connection between the two is a crossover cable and is functioning fine with either static IP addresses or automatic. Currently it is set to automatic. ICS has been installed and the Host is connected to the web and e-mail without problems. Whenever the client tries to connect to the web through Internet Explorer using the web address, (www.websitename.com), the host just freezes up and has to be reset using the button at the front. From the client I can ping the IP of a website from the browser and it appears, (Albeit with a few graphics missing). I can ping the website using the URL and IP address. According to Microsoft it has something to do with Fully qualified Domain Names but the help sheet is not too helpful in that it does not show whether the fix applies to the host or the client and exactly what you have to do to install the fix. Anybody out there seen this or have any ideas? |
