System restore
Does anyone know if there is a Windows 98 utility that does essentially the
same thing as XP's System Restore? Thanks. |

Is this before or after the fact? Are you just asking out of curiosity or do
you have a problem? -- Gary S. Terhune MS-MVP Shell/User http://grystmill.com "Ken Springer" wrote in message ... Does anyone know if there is a Windows 98 utility that does essentially the same thing as XP's System Restore? Thanks. |

System restore
Hi, Gary, You can call this preventative maintenance. LOL Or, more accurately, a method to keep me from having to completely reinstall everything on the Old but Reliable Dell. It finally got so bad, I had to reinstall Win98. Which means a lot of software to reinstall. With this NOT being the first time I've had to do this, I've been using Norton Ghost and making image backups of the boot partition when the next piece of software gets installed and I'm sure everything is working right. There's already been a couple of times when things have gone wrong, and I've had to use one of those Ghost images to get back where I was. After finally learning what System Restore does in XP, it occurred to me that if something similar existed in Win98 I could cut back on the Ghost image backup. Not completely, as I suspect there's nothing to prevent the restore points and info from getting scrambled. :-) Thanks. Ken "Gary S. Terhune" wrote: Is this before or after the fact? System restore
Hi, Steve,
Thanks for the Win98 info regarding some kind of System Restore. I think I'll Google the question and see if someone created such an animal after the fact. I've got a CD of miscellaneous Win98 utilities, but I've never really looked at it. Not to sound like a whiner, but have you had a chance to look at my Ping message in the XP Security and administration newsgroup? System restore
There is no such thing. Backups, imaging, etc., yes, but anything resembling
System Restore.... The closest thing is Scanreg /restore, and that isn't even close to System Restore. -- Gary S. Terhune MS-MVP Shell/User http://grystmill.com "Ken Springer" wrote in message ... I'm sorry, but I don't read the XP Security and administration newsgroup, and I haven't seen your message. Your previous messages were in the XP networking newsgroup, and that's where I've been looking. I just looked in microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin, and I don't see anything from you. Please tell me the date that you posted and the subject header of the message. Or give a link to the message in Google groups. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
