I don't have any double-density (2DD0 720-KB floppy disks to check, but it should if
it's a standard 3-1/2" internal floppy drive. What is the storage capacity of my floppy diskette? - http://www.indiana.edu/~sakaikb/help...all&docid=adox -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "b11_" wrote in message ... put finger to keyboard and composed: Can a standard floppy drive read a 2DD disk? There should be no problem. The 720KB diskettes are usually formatted with 9 sectors/track, whereas the 1.44MB diskettes have 18 sectors/track. Both have 80 tracks. One requires a greater write current than the other, and this is indicated by the second hole in the jacket (people used to try for 1.44MB from a 720KB diskette by covering up this hole). The problem with disc compatibility arises in old 360KB 5.25" diskettes when used in both 360KB (40 track) and 1.2MB (80 track) drives. This is due to the latter's narrower track widths, which means that a 1.2MB drive cannot completely erase the wider tracks written by a 360KB drive. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

You asked can the drive read a "2DD" but now you say it won't format. Did
you choose 720K in the format dialog? "b11_" wrote in message ...
