Default Fatal Exception Error ..(something like VXD NTKERN (01))

Hi and if anyone could help me out thanx... this is a bit longwinded.
(my computer is windows 98 (not SE))
ok.. so it's like this... everytime i open "My Computer", and try to
access my cd drives or floppydrive, scan for viruse or try to use the
find function my PC freezes and then the Blue screen of death pops up
saying:
" A fatal exception OE occured at 0028:C002EEE9 in VXD NTKERN (01) +
0000DFC9... etc"

This problem only recently occurred when i upgraded my zonealarm and
download accelerator pro. So i thought it might be one of those
softwares, but even after closing them and disabling them from
starting up the fatal exception still occurred.
So i thought since it was specificcaly occurring at My Computer (BTW my
c:\ drive works perfectly fine, i had to create a shortcut to that
drive tho..), i thought it might be one of my cd roms/writers or my
floppy disk. But they were working perfectly fine before... and when i
went into control panel-system properties-devicemanager, to check out
their drivers the PC would crash before i could see anything.

So at a lost.. i googled my problem... after reading this site
(http://www.experts-exchange.com/Oper..._10164829.html)
(P.S. if you can't see it refresh and scroll down past the ads.)
And i think the Problem has something to do with my USB driver... see i
think i pulled my Portable USB stick (drive F: on my comp) without
safely removing it or it screwed up when i tried installing
zonealarm/Download accelerator pro, directly off it..
So i think i got to remove & replace my usb driver... although i got no
idea at all how to do that. So can someone tell me how to safely
remove and replace my usb driver ?

One way to find out if it is caused by something to do with the USB ports.
Is at a boot perferabily a reboot hold the "Delete" down at the first black
screen to bring up MB Bios. Under "Intergrated Peripherals" turn off
/Disable" USB device . And if there is USB Legacy- disable also. Then "Save
and Exit" out of Bios and see if the machine works OK.
I have seen some MBs that when you plug or unplug a USB device while the PC
is on will disable the USB in Bios.
If this works and you can get to Device manager? Go to the USB controlers
at the bottom and reload the drivers for each entry.
Probly will need the MB driver CD and Win98 CD to do this.
Once that is done go back to MB Bios and ,at least, enable the USB device.
"Save and Exit" back to boot up.
Hope this helps?
