I had to reinstall Windows 98 on my laptop, an AMS Tech
Travel Pro, now the display on my screen is really low
resolution and I cannot find any setting to change it.
What can I do to correct this? Thanks.

When the correct screen resolution (screen area) or the right number of
colors are not available choices in display properties, settings tab, then
it is a good bet you do not have the right driver installed for your display
adapter. The display adapter in your PC is either a video card or a display
chipset on the motherboard.

If you received a CD or floppy disks with drivers along with your PC, see if
they contain a display adapter driver and install it using: control panel,
system, device manager, display adapter.

If you know what display adapter your PC has but you have no disks, use
www.google.com to track down the correct driver on the internet.

If you do not know what display adapter your PC uses, you can go to a MS-DOS
prompt and type: Debug and hit enter. The screen will display a
flashing prompt next to a - sign. Type: DC000:35 (DC000:50 may also work)
and hit enter. The name and possibly model of your display adapter should
appear on the right hand side of the screen. To quit Debug, type Q and hit
enter. If Debug is not helpful, you can try this program: Advanced PCI
Info, available at: http://www.upsystems.com.ua/support/alexmina/ If all
else fails, you will have to remove the computer case. Look at where the
monitor plugs into the back of the case and then check that location inside
the case. If there is a card there, you obviously have a video card and if
not, you have on board graphics. Write down any information displayed on
either the card or the chipset on the motherboard. Then use www.google.com
to search for the information. Do not include all the data you found in one
search message--search on each piece individually. If you include all the
information at once, you might not get a hit.

I have found that a video card will generally have to be removed in order to
see the information. Be careful of static electricity as it can fry
components. Before touching anything in the computer case (the cord is
unplugged, right?), ground yourself to the case by touching it. Don't work
on carpeting since shuffling your feet on it can generate static electricity
after you grounded yourself. Remove the one screw that holds the card in
place and using a rocking motion (left to right and back) and pull the card
straight out.

Once you have the right driver, install it through control panel, system,
device manager or through control panel, add new hardware, as appropriate.

.howdy: ihave had such problems my self. there are 3

things that may help you. the first right click onthe
screen, click properties, click the settings tab, with the
slide bar increase the pixel count, click apply. the second
may be that you have incompatable color settings with your
display driver, the fix is similer to the previuos
problem. right click on the screen, click properties, click
the settings tab,in the colors section click the drop down
to the right side of the bar.choose a setting, start at the
lowest setting you can go up later if you whant.after
choosing the setting, click apply. the third is that you
may be using the incorrect display driver.this is a little
more complicated.once again, right click on the
screen, click properties, click the settings tab, click
advavced, click monitor tab, check the automatic detect
plug and play box, click apply, click change, click next,
click display lists of drivers, click next, click show all
hardware, then follow the instuctions. this should give you
the best choice for a driver. i hope this information
helps you to a resolution!

If you just reinstalled Windows, or you cannot change to 256, 16 bit, or 32
bit color, you probably need to reinstall your video card drivers.

To reinstall your video card drivers, you need to know the exact make and
model of your video card in order to install the correct/updated drivers.

There are several ways to determine what kind of video card you have.

1. Check the manual that came with your PC.

2. You can open your PC tower to look at the video card and note the name
and numbers printed on it.

3. You can download and run this program from MajorGeeks.com. It might be
able to determine what kind of video card you have:

AIDA32 - Enterprise System Information 3.93

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=183

To find the Aida32 info you need to post, run the Aida32 program, and click
the + sign next to Computer
on the left side of your screen then click Summary.

Then Right click the information on the *right* side of your screen and
select Copy. You can then paste the information in Notepad or paste it
directly to this newsgroup.

Aida32 will tell you a lot about what's inside your PC. In addition to
telling us the *Brand and Model Number* of your computer, please post back
the information Aida32 reports for your:

Motherboard

CPU

Chipset

Display PCI/AGP Video

Display GPU

This information will assist us in finding the correct video drivers, and
directing you to the video card manufacturer's website so you can download
and install them.

*** IMPORTANT *** Remember to tell us the *Brand and Model Number* of your
computer which is printed on your PC case or is listed in the manual that
came with your computer.
