win 98 pc freezes up after 3- 5 minutes
I had a suggestion of checking the Fans, cards and dust
Bunnies. It is a very clean machine and all fans are working fine. I also reinstalled win98, any other suggestions. could it be a bad solder point on the motherboard. |

I guess it didn't freeze up while reinstalling Win98.(This was probably done
in DOS mode). Does it freeze up in Safe Mode also? If so, it may be a hardware driver problem. wrote in message ... I had a suggestion of checking the Fans, cards and dust Bunnies. win 98 pc freezes up after 3- 5 minutes
I think I was the one who made the suggestion and my reasoning was because
it seemed like the machine had to heat up for a few minutes before the freeze occurred. A bad solder point would presumably work just the opposite--you would have a problem booting until such time that the machine heated up and caused expansion to complete the circuit. Buffalo's question about safe mode should be checked out but I don't see how the 3 - 5 minute time frame could be involved in a software (driver) problem. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo wrote in message ... Try leaving the case off and have a room fan blowing on the innards.
If this helps, it is most likely heat related. In my earlier suggestion, I meant that if it ran OK in Safe Mode, then that could indicate a hardware problem, but they usually don't have that 3-5min delay like you described. Since you reinstalled Win98, and I'm sure that install took more than 3-5 minutes, that must mean that your machine works OK in DOS mode (indicates that it is probably not a heat related problem directly). That's why I suggested trying Safe Mode to help narror things down. wrote in message ... I had a suggestion of checking the Fans, cards and dust Bunnies.
