Default "Eject drive" question ...

In a recent thread, I had had issues with a driver to a USB flash
drive. Thanks to the great help in this group, I found the driver for
this. The neat thing is that that driver installed a small "eject"
app that starts up and appears in the systray, just like Windows
2000's.

With the success of the USB drive and with what I'd learned re the
process of finding drivers for this type of thing, I found the driver
for my MP3 player and installed it. However, it did _not_ come with
an "eject" app and trying to launch the USB driver's one didn't work.
Nothing happens.

Is there an app of this kind anywhere that can be downloaded? I
imagine that just like in Windows 2000, I can't just unplug the MP3
player without closing it, is that correct?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks. D

Most USB drives do not come with an eject app for Win98.
Yours is the exception.

You can unplug if it is not in use but you might try this method for
safety:

Put a shortcut to the drive in the Quick Launch Bar. Right click that
icon and select Eject.
I use that method and I see the light go out on
my thumb drive so it is ready to remove.

Actually, after trying this several times over last few days, I've
found that the eject button doesn't work. The light doesn't go over
on my flash drive, for example. I tried the eject trick for that when
this separate eject app doesn't work. Like in Win2K, the app
occasionally says words to the effect that I can't disconnect for some
reason. And when I've removed the flash drive, I get that same Win2K
error message saying I might have lost valuable data, etc.

Fortunately the MP3 player doesn't seem to be as critical, or it just
doens't alert me as the "safeeject" app does.

Despite this, I'm very glad to report that both units working
perfectly besides the few glitches re removing. I'm glad I hardly
ever listen to salespeople and went ahead and purchased the flash
drive. It's tiny at just 256kg, but since I used to carry around
floppies, and it's still tons larger than what I carried around I'm
very happy (esp.. since once rebate comes back, it'll have cost me
Cdn$10.00! g).

Thanks for everyone's help. D
