You most likely need to overinstall Internet Explorer, as we have mentioned, if
scanreg/restore did not help. You have been unable to do so using any method. Get another CD drive that is not broken, and over-install your version of IE from a CD...either from an AOL or magazine CD, or order a CD he http://on-disk.com/product_info.php/products_id/46 Otherwise, pay $35....I would be very interested to see how they tell you to fix it, without formatting and reinstalling clean. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ ~ In memory of our friend, MVP Alex Nichol ~ http://aumha.org/alex.htm http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "tgregg99" wrote in message news All ... All ...
I've tried everything you've asked to do. I've been patient. Yet, I still have no Windows98 desktop/icons upon booting. And, yes, my CD drive does not work -- it's broken. Is there any hope to restore my Windows98 desktop/icons? If you have no other recommendations, then I will call MS tech support and spend the $35 with the understanding I will get it refunded if tech support is not able to resolve my problem, is that correct? You'd be better off spending that $35 (less, actually) on a new CD
drive. Pretty hard to maintain a computer these days without one. Believe me, MS support isn't going to be able to give you any better answers than the ones you've already been given. The first thing they're likely to tell you is go buy a new CD drive. -- Gary S.
