Mike, I think I understood what Willy wanted to do.

Which is why I told him how to do what he was asking. Jack you need to
remember that AOL doesn't have the worldwide presence that Americans might
think it has. Personally I haven't seen an AOL disk for years.

Willy, I concur again with Mike about your sister upgrading to IE6
SP1. This is important.

Mike, I think I understood what Willy wanted to do. I was trying to
direct him to a source for the IE6 setup files.
The only rational use for the AOL8 disk is to retrieve the IE6
installation files for WinME (or Win98 or W2K). One can then copy
them to CD and burn the AOL disk (i,e., put the disk in a fire!).

That's a point, they used to come through the post like clockwork and be
in every magazine and I haven't seen or had one since I don't know when

Joan,

Exactly, and hence my post. :-)

BTW my phone service got switched this a.m. from BT as part of my ISP
upgrade (8Mbps down 512Kbps up) but everything's got royally screwed (not
totally unexpected really). I can now no longer receive calls (but can
make them) and those I call can no longer see my number. As for my ADSL
connection it's syncing with the exchange at the same speeds as before but
the attenuation figures have significantly deteriorated as have the
signal/ratios. Not a particularly happy bunny at the moment.

Cheers,

Thank you for the update availability of AOL installation CD's.
Here they remain ubiquitous, exceeded only by McDonald's paper trash and
government lies in every public place.
Does make it easy to get a newer disk when one fails.

I wouldn't know anything about the AOL service except my mother-in-law
persists in using it to message with her buddies.
AOL 8 under WinME works fine for her.

Joan,

Phone service came fully back shortly after I posted my earlier message.
ADSL Am now syncing with the exchange at 6.7Mb down and 416Kb up but am
not seeing any increase in speeds. Hopefully this will be fixed tomorrow.
I should be syncing at 8Mb down but it looks as if I might not be getting
the full speed I should.

Hope your router problems get sorted soon and the changes due on the 15th
are without problem.

Internet Explorer Full Download Instructions:

2. Place the downloaded setup file he C:\Downloads (Create this folder if
necessary.)

3. Click Start | Run and type the command below into the Open field, and

NOTE: Use the EXACT syntax shown below, including the quotation marks.
Copying the text below and pasting it into the Open field is recommended.

My Sister has a problem with OE on her oldish PC that has Windows ME. I
think that she has OE 5.5. One of her main issues is that she can't delete
items from her outbox. Her ISP 'Help line' has told her that she needs to
upgrade to IE6. As she is on a slow dial-up connection, is there a website
where I could download IE6 and put it on a CD for her?
I am only able to find the MS Installer via the web.
TIA, Willy

Glad to hear that things seem to be getting better.

My change over is just that Onetel are taking over the line rental from
BT for my account as I already have them supplying all my calls, and it'll
be cheaper g

I don't have my ADSL service through them though but my ISP did say when I
first applied that it shouldn't make any difference to my connecting to
them. Lets hope that's true or there will be murder in this house if no
one can get online. g

As for the router if I don't get it sorted out they will just come and
swap it, probably for another make.

Understood. Mine is a bit different though as my telephone line is no
longer connected to BT equipment at the exchange. It's now what is called
a Local Loop Unbundled (LLU) line. Same copper line from my home to the
exchange where it is now connected to equipment owned by Bulldog/Cable &
Wireless. My only bill will be from Bulldog. BT's involvement now being
limited to repairing any problems that might occur between me and the
exchange.

Sounds like a good solution. I'm using a Netgear 834G which has given me
no problems in the last year.

Cheers,

Mike
