System Info says There are no USB devices after clean install of 9
I just did a clean reinstall of Windows 98 SE on my custom built 7 yr ols
computer and it has an added on USB card with 2 USB ports and 2 round ports (one is for the mouse which works). Now, my USB's are not being recognized. The USB card is Elpina 9837. Did I wipe out the drivers when I did the reinstall? I am new at learning about my computer as I have not really used it much since I bought it yrs. ago. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

If you did a "clean reinstall", if you first reformatted the drive before
installing, then yes, you lost the drivers. You need to obtain the drivers for the card from the manufacturer. Or perhaps you still have the CD that came with the card? You want to be sure to follow the installation instructions carefully. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "DianneR" wrote in message ... Thanks, Gary, yes, I did fdisk and format c: and did not think about any drivers being lost and I got this computer 7 yrs ago and I don't think I got a USB driver disk with it. I guess I have also lost my video card driver because I can only get 16 colors instead of 256 which is required for me to get online with that computer through the modem. I just am really sorry that I reinstalled the OS because I cannot get that computer back online. Thank you very much |

The first thing to do is to see if Everest will run on the machine. http://lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en Download it on another system and burn it to a CD to move to your own system. It will tell you what hardware you have you your machine. Once you have that data, you can again use another machine to collect the drivers. You're in for a bit of a long haul. Try not to get discouraged. We're here to help you along the way. The first thing to deal with is the video drivers (though I think you should be able to install the modem without the video drivers--that part sounds strange.) -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User |

Terhune MS MVP Shell/User Yes, Gary, I have installed Everest from a CD onto my computer and what I meant to say about the video driver is that I was trying to get AOL free trial through my modem, just so I could get Microsoft updates and USB drivers and AOL wouldn't install because of only 16 colors instead of 256. I am trying to locate these drivers. I know the manufacturer of the USB one (Elpina), but I have to find out about the video card one now. Would this info be on the Everest report? Thank you all so much. |

Thank you all so much. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I would recommend against installing AOL unless you intend to commit yourself to using AOL. Better option would be a simple, plain vanilla ISP like Earthlink. Even with the plain vanilla ISP, do not install their software. It's not necessary. All you want is a phone number, your username and password. If you need more than that to set up a simple internet connection, you want a different ISP. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User |

You have to install the driver, that is on CD for your PCI-USB card -- or you
can try to find it in Internet, http://www.google.com/search?query=E...0driver&num=10 Windows does not know this driver, and does not install it therefore. -- Mikhail Zhilin MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) http://www.aha.ru/~mwz Sorry, no technical support by e-mail.
