Default C/D player wont play music c/d's.....

Read all before performing any of these steps.

On the cd drive itself, make sure the audio cable is plugged in.

At the other end,
If using the onboard sound. Make sure it plugged into the
motherboard.

If using a pci or an isa sound cord make sure the other end is plug
into that and not the motherboard.

You might try this with or without those steps above or even before
you try those step above.

Control Panel-System -Device Manager
Look for your sound. Remove all of the sound stuff.
Reboot. Let windows install the sound drivers.
Reboot
It is ok to have more that one sounds system installed.
Control Panel Media Multimedia, choose you preferred device

I am not sure, it been awhile since I done this. Go over to devices.
Audio codec. Only if you still have problems. I think you change
GSM 6.10 priority to 3, maybe PCR can verify this.

Default C/D player wont play music c/d's.....

Hi,,

On advice from PCR, I am starting this new thread.

About 3 months ago, I got an error msg from my prefered software (jad)
saying it could'nt play (playback) the music c/d I put in.
It was out-of-the-blue to me as I have never had a problem playing music
c/d's before.
I checked Every setting Everywhere, and all looked just fine. So, I
tried another cd-rom player, but same result. Also, I used different
software, ie: "jad, windows player, win-amp, sound edit pro, " and etc
etc... each had its own error msg, some more detailed than others,
but it didnt matter because my music wouldnt play.
I tried playing music that I have in files and folders etc, no problem
there at all.

After a while, I just decided to go buy a new cd/dvd player.. burner too.
It also didnt work, and I knew straight away that I had just wasted
$70bucks because the problem obviously wasnt the player(s).

My system is 98SE. It has on-board sound which I found out later didnt
even require the cable from the player to mobo.
Heres the thing:::::: I cant for the life of me remember what I did,
but I eventually got it to work again.... without cable too.

and now, to now. Last week the xact same error msg came up when I
wanted to play some music from a c/d, and I cant remember what I did to
fix it before.

Also, about 2 months ago, I re-wound my registry back to a date about 3
years ago,, but this has nothing to do with my player playing music,
as it worked before that and also afterwards. (I say this because I know
of at least two people who will make an issue of it.... but it doesnt
come into play at all.)

Any suggestions gratefully apprectiated.

You know, no offense, really - I tend to get a little verbose
and obsessed by details myself (I'm talking about both of your
posts in this thread so far).

(Now get your sense of humor ready...)

But as MANY have said to me, "It's a wonder anyone has not
killed you yet!"

Not sure what your beef is, or why, but each to his own I guess.
I thought I asked a civilized question in a civilized group, and in
fact, I was invited to start a thread about my prob from a respected
member of this group.

It isnt at the moment as all has been fine without it plugged in, but
I'll try that next shut-down.

Not sure what you mean here greg? My player has always worked in the
exact configuration its in now, and nothing has been altered.

If you mean sound-card, I dont have one... I believe my via-chipset
supplies all things. My sound system itself is an Altec-Lansing set up
with built in amp and woofer etc,, plus of course the two satellites.

Control Panel Media Multimedia, choose you preferred device

Okay, will try the above things tonight when I get booted off the net..
(its a dial-up thing, I get five hours then have to re-connect.)

-------------

I am not sure, it been awhile since I done this. Go over to devices.
Audio codec. Only if you still have problems. I think you change
GSM 6.10 priority to 3, maybe PCR can verify this.

Am at 'Devices' now; under the heading of 'Audio Devices' it has two
entries, one is for my modem and the other is for for 'VIA AC'97 Audio
Controller (WDM)'. There doesnt seem to be any mention of 'GSM 6.10' or
3.... perhaps I am in the wrong area? I went thru' control
panelMultiMediaDevices.

Greg

Thanks for chipping in.

And, if by 'killed' you mean kill-filtered, then its obvious you are not
one that has done that;; on the other hand, if by 'killed' you mean
physical violence, then please, oh please, hop on a plane and front up,
I would be mooooore than happy to accomodate you.
And also, if MANY have said that to you, then you are obviously in mail
contact with said ppl, because threats on a micro server are deemed to
be bad form ol' chap.

ps, dont buy your plane ticket as a return ticket, cos you wont!!
(my Roo is lookin' forward to meetin' ya.... Cobber!)
