Wireless modem range
This might seem a stupid question.
If I have a wireless modem set up in my home, what's to stop my next door neighbour from using it. If it works through the walls of my house surely it will transmit through to next door. Thanks |

Thanks Ben, a) By configuring the Wireless Access Point (WAP) to not broadcast its SID, that is to not broadcast its name. b) By changing the default SID or name to something unusual that only those needing to use the WAP will know. c) Configure the WAP to only accept connections from known MAC addresses (this is the unique address of the network card) d) By using password protected Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) or even better by using Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) if available on both WAP and the client. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP |
