Windows Update Error 0x80072EFD

Help!!! I have been working on this PC for 5 days now attempting to recover
from a major virus attack. After working around all the problems with
removing all the virus files, and reinstalling windows I have finally been
able to connect to the Iinternet to perform the Windows Update. When I
attempt this, however I bet the above error in the Windows Update.log, and
the windows update error displays "Windows Update has encountered an error
and cannot display the requested page....". In researching this error, it
appears that the major problem has to do with NIS, but I have no firewall on
this PC. I am also experiencing a problem with my connection to the local
e-mail server via Outlook Express. Don't know if these problems are related.
I am just about to the point of turning this PC into a boat anchor!

On top of everything else, I got bounced out of the posting with my first
and second attempts.
