Default product key winME

Dilemna, working out a bug I am attempting to reinstall
Win ME and have misplaced the key....I do have a
legitimate OS, I do not recall where the key is located
for this software. The last time it was installed was
likely over a year ago. Can anyone give suggestions.

If Windows is still running, get it from the Registry with Regedit.exe
The key is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
The value is ProductKey

Look around the outside of your PC case, there should
be a sticker with the key printed on it.

Is your Windows Me still bootable, even in Safe Mode?

If so then you can locate the product key in the registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
The value is ProductKey

And if your Windows Me is not bootable it may still be possible to
recover it provided the registry files (system.dat and user.dat in the
Windows folder) or the registry backups (RBnnn.CAB files in the
\Windows\Sysbckup folder) are still on the hard drive.

Good luck
