Thnx in advance.

If you need the product key, have not formatted your drive and can =
still access Windows, MVP George Gedye has an app ( RegInfo ver3 ) that =
will pull it from the registry for you.
http://www.mvps.org/PracticallyNerded/

Click on Software, click on Applications, scroll down to RegInfo ver3.
Or
Your Product Key can be found in the registry. Go to Start Run, type =
in: regedit and hit enter. Navigate to:
Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
Click once on CurrentVersion, the name not the +, and scroll to =
ProductID or ProductKey in the right pane.

If you can=E2=80=99t boot Win98, but haven=E2=80=99t formatted the =
system drive, then boot with a startup floppy or to a command prompt and =
run either of these:
C:\Windows\command\Find /I =E2=80=9CProductKey=E2=80=9D =
c:\windows\system.dat
C:\Windows\command\Find /I =E2=80=9CProductKey=E2=80=9D c:\system.1st

If these steps aren=E2=80=99t possible (you already formatted it), US =
customers can contact Microsoft at: 1 800 642-7676. They will issue
retail and OEM product keys after verifying data located on the W98 CD.

If Windows is installed enter this from the Dos prompt or boot with
a Win98 Startup Diskette:
C:\windows\command\Find /i "ProductKey" c:\windows\system.dat
(that's an "eye" in /i)
You can also try this if the System.1st file has not been deleted.
C:\windows\command\Find /i "ProductKey" c:\system.1st
There are 3 spaces, 1 before and after /i and 1 before c:
The ProductKey is 5 groups of 5 letters and numbers.
Not all SE and ME systems have the key in System.1st.

You can also try this from Dos if the System.1st file in the root
has not been deleted and you can't access FIND.
Enter: Edit System.1st
Then use the search feature for ProductKey (one word). Use the ALT
key to access the menus.
Use Alt+F then X to exit the Editor.
