Default operating discs windows 98

i have been told b,y microsoft that the operating discs,
an recovery disc are needed for windows 98 to upgrade to
windows XP,, i do not have the operating discs, as the
person that worked on my computer, did not return them to
me, last fall, when i called microsoft in january of 2004
i was old the operating discs for windows 98 are not
avialable, i also, called hewlett packard, as that is the
computer i have. hewlett packard also told me the
operating discs are not available, so can any one tell me
how to upgrade to windows XP if the operating discs are
needed for windows 98, an they are not avialable, how do u
upgraded to XP?
or are the windows 98 operating discs needed to upgrade to
XP?
please advise.

Default operating discs windows 98

If you purchase the full version of XP you can upgrade your existing system
without a requirement to have the W98 CD. Otherwise, you might find a W98 CD
available on e-Bay or possibly through the on-line computer software stores.
