User.exe is corrupt (Windows User-interface core component)
Background:
I had McAfee VirusScan-9 installed & was trying to run a normal update. The update kept failing. Tried to re-install it. But now all my installation/update attempts fail. So I worked through their troubleshooting steps. I even installed & ran the anti-spyware tool called "Ad-Aware" (which didn't find any problems). Their last step says that: "if all other steps have been done and the install still fails...then you might have corrupted system files". So, I ran the System File Checker. It said that "user.exe may be corrupt". The time-stamp is the original but the CRC does not match. I have several Questions about this: 1) Has anyone seen this happen before, concerning user.exe and VirusScan? 2) If my user.exe file really is corrupt, then wouldn't I have ALOT MORE system problems than just this ONE? 3) What would change the CRC of my user.exe? Some type virus or adware/spyware/malware? 4) What would normally cause it's corruption? a program/system crash? Thanks in advance!!! |
