You might want to defragment the drive and check it for errors by Right
clicking on the Drive letter after clicking on My Computer and running those tools. Also, boot to DOS and at the prompt type: scanreg/ fix (notice the space) and press Enter. When that is finished running type: scanreg/ opt (notice the space) and press Enter. When that is finished running type: Exit and press Enter to reboot to Windows. If those solutions don't work it seems the only choice is to reinstall Windows. If your hard drive has at least two partitions, then this is not a major problem since you can back up all the files you want to save on the second parition. You also can burn them to a CD or save them to another computer if you have a home network. If reinstalling Windows doesn't work, then you might have a hardware problem such as a loose or damaged cable, a CPU fan that no longer works properly etc. Those are only two hardware problems that might be causing the freezing problem. Ok I rebooted the computer in safe mode and was able to go
into display settings, however i couldn't acces the moniter tab when i clicked on advanced. I then ran msconfig.exe, and selected selective startup, and unchecked the Process system.ini box.
