Roll Back to Windows 2000
I have a machine that came preinstalled w/ WinME. Is a rollback to Win2000
possible without creating damage to currently installed programs etc feasible. I know a clean install is always the best option, but again want to know if the rollback is possible. TIA |

A roll back would only be possible if the machine had previously had
Win2000 installed. Since the PC was supplied with Win Me installed such a rollback is impossible. Not only that but PCs running Windows 2000 cannot be "upgraded" to run Win Me, the two operating system are from different families, Windows 2000 being based on the NT kernel and Win Me on the 9x kernel. Whilst machines running 9x systems can be upgraded to NT based systems (such as Win Me being upgraded to XP), the reverse is not true. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Stephen Hartman wrote: I have a machine that came preinstalled w/ WinME.
